Kelly's the name, selling papes is the game. Most people just call her Babydoll, though. You could say it's sort of a misnomer if you actually know the real Babydoll. But then again, most people don't know where Kelly Michaels came from in the first place.
Age;;
Miss Babydoll is fourteen years of age, but she lies about that fact quite often and says she's younger.
Physical Description;;
Weighing in at ninety-seven pounds and standing at four-foot-seven, Kelly is a slender little girl. Some could call her cute as a button with her pointed nose, innocent face, and blue-grey eyes, but they'd be getting the wrong picture once they got to know her.
Babydoll wears boy's clothes, pants and suspenders over a dirty and scruffy loose white shirt. Her hair is almost always done up in some way and at times hidden under her khaki-colored cap hat. The only time she wears it down is when she's asleep or someone made her wear her hair that way.
History;;
Kelly was born to her parents in…well, not New York. She's a Boston gal at heart. Her father was a brilliant journalist with a tendency for the dangerous story, her mother would usually tag along if she could find someone to look after the baby girl. A few days after her third birthday, Scott and Ginevra chose the wrong story to chase. They were lost to the world and Kelly was left all alone.
So she wandered the streets until a Catholic school took her in and raised her until she was six, when she ran away to New York and found the boarding house for Brooklyn Newsboys. The owner thought she was a cute little girl and dressed her in clothes suitable for a newsboy–complete with the hat she would keep with her–he also tied her hair in pigtails behind her ears to make it plain to the boys she wasn't to be rough with.
But the boys didn't really mind her, they called her Babydoll and started teaching her the ropes of selling papers. She was a born natural at it, and not because she was a girl. No, she hid her hair up in her hat with a few strands in the front dangling in her face so she looked like one of the boys. Soon she started getting in fights with other newsies for the first chance at getting papers at the start of the day. During one of these fights when she was ten, the boy she was fighting with punched her jaw and her hat came off, revealing the girlishly long hair. The boys selling for other papes went nuts, realizing that they'd been hitting a girl for two years.
The ruckus soon died down and things went back to normal. Kelly actually wore her hair in pigtails similar to the ones she'd had her first day in the boarding house more often.
In the middle of her twelfth year in life, the newsgirl grew tired of the same old places she found in Manhattan and wanted to try something new. Hey, she made it in Brooklyn, how could it be any different in Manhattan? So she packed up what little she had and said good-bye-for-now to one borough and 'hello' to a new.
Truth be told, it took a while to get settled in with the new crowd. There was definitely a few challenges making herself known and changing her technique to fit the new neighborhood, but overall, she adjusted well to the new climate.
Where is she now? Well, at the age of fourteen, she's been attempting to teach a younger newsboy or two the tricks she'd collected over the years. And it's not really working for her.
Personality;;
Kelly's a tough kid, since she's been an orphan since she was about three and all. And to put it lightly, she's not good with adults…or anyone in a position of authority over her for that matter outside of her borough leader, of course. She likes being paid, being one of the female newsies in New York, and her solid left hook.
One thing you may not know about Babydoll, she hopes to grow up to be a reporter.
Likes;;
Money, selling papers, running around the streets, messing with her customers, not giving refunds, and a few of the boys around New York.
Dislikes;;
Not having money, the cops, spiders, and boys that are total scabs.
