Name: Edward "Eddie" Ricardo
Age: 16
Physical Appearance: Eddie is tall and stocky, with dark hair that is usually sticking up towards the middle. His height actually surprises him and his parents immensely, his father is quite short and his Mother is a petite little woman. He has hazely eyes and dark eyebrows. Eddie is always grinning, just about always. He wears trousers and his white undershirt and suspenders.
History:
Eddie is the only son of Antonio and Elana Ricardo, his older sister, Rosita, only lived until she was four, fever taking her. The family decided to move away from the grief to America, to experience the promise of a new beginning. You could be free in America, was what everybody said. And there was where Eddie was born, the only Ricardo born in America. His parents took pride in that. Telling him that because he was true American that someday he was going to be great.
The Ricardos owned a little pizzaria in the Bronx, on Arthur Avenue in Little Italy. Antonio was very proud of his restaurant. Things were usually okay for the Ricardos. But Antonio and Elana bickered mercilessly, and Eddie grew up hearing it all the time. He was tired of it and when he was eleven, one night he snapped. He was also tired of them always bringing up his "greatness", and how proud they were of their "american" son. He yelled at them, telling them he was tired of their bickering, their gloating, and tired of them. He told them he didn't want to be american if it meant being singled out. He just wanted to be called their son. His father retreated to the store and his Mother gave Eddie a lecture before locking herself in her room.
That night, a gunshot rang through the air. Somebody tried to rob the pizzeria and when Antonio refused to give him the money they had shot him, hitting him right in the skull. He was dead before Eddie or his Mother could even get to him. Eddie listened to his Mother cry all night and he cried as well, unable to believe he had said such horrible things to his father and now he was dead.
His Mother wanted to go back to Italy, to live with the relatives, but Eddie wouldn't go. He told her he was an American, he might as well stay where he belonged. He could never face his family again, not after what happened. He promised his Mother he would find a good safe place to live, and he would write and send her some of the money he made when he found a job. The pizzaria was sold, the hardest thing the Ricardos had to let go of. Eddie lives in the Bronx and sells newspapers for a living.
Personality:
Eddie is basically a full out spaz. He is always on the move and gets excited about things very quickly. He is cheerful most of the time, trying not to think about what he left behind. He likes living in Bronx and likes Queenie a lot. He likes belonging and having his own bed. He enjoys coming up with new fascinating ways to sell a newspaper. He over reacts sometimes and is very dramatic, and sometimes a little sensitive. His heart is as big as the sky...almost.
Likes: Selling newspapers, pizza and spaghetti, Queenie, Bronx, being loud and crazy.
Dislikes: Animals(especially cats), Little Italy, being sad, bad selling days, and bad memories.
