Most Brooklynites come up here to think. Mostly the birds though, they love to see whats around them.

Doll sighed, looking out on the roof. Spot had left. Well, at least she wasn't Johanna Aishlinn Johnson anymore. Nope, she was Johanna Aishlinn Conlon. The wedding was small and quiet, thank god. And everyone invited was sober (obviously they had red the invitation). But... now Spot had to go to another meeting. Looking out at the setting sun, she wondered what Spot was doing right then. Was the sun setting where he was? Or was it already set? Heck could it be that it was still noon there? Shaking her head, she looked down sadly at her ring.
It truly was a beautiful ring. It was almost heartbreaking to see it, since it reminded her of Spot. Taking her mind off of Spot, she thought of other things. Doll thought of all the information she had collected, and how her and Bear were gonna have to be in charge. Why did Muse have to leave? Oh yea, cause of her husband. 'Well Muse ain't the only one who's married,' she thought to herself, 'Now I'm gonna walk around and here, oh look, it's Spot's wife. Dont mess with her, otherwise Spot'll flip.'
Leaning against a crate, she wondered when the madness would stop. She was sixteen, and still old enough to be a newsie. But someday she was gonna grow up. The marriage part was already done. But they all knew what came after marriage; kids. Doll swallowed a lump in her throat. Apparently child birth hurt like hell, and she didn't know if Spot even wanted kids. It was a scary thought, since being a newsie and pregnant wasn't really the safest thing on earth. In fact, it made her a target. Besides, she couldn't be pregnant, right?
Right. She would know if she was. Didn't they call that intiution or something? Yea, intiution. She would know if she was pregnant. Ever. Doll wouldn't be dumb about that kind of thing.

Peep stared up at the rickety iron ladder that was the fire escape. He jumped and grabbed hold of the bottom ring and then pulled himself up. He twisted himself so his feet landed in between his hands. Then he began to climb swiftly to the roof. He pulled himself over the concrete railing and crouched on the wall, his intelligent blue eyes scanning the roof. He was on the Brooklyn Lodging House roof. He was looking for someone. Doll, of course.
He spotted her, her brown hair gave her away first, her small size second. He was not freakishly tall when he stood next to her, he supposed that was one of the many reasons they were friends. Peep swung his feet around and landed on the roof. He straightened up, brushed himself off and walked towards Doll. When he was right behind her, he hugged her gently. Then he stepped away, in case another bird was there.
Peep grinned. "Hullo, Doll!" he said cheerfully. "The wedding was beautiful. How does it feel to be the new Mrs. Conlon?" He asked, tilting his head. He grinned. "Oh, and I loved walking you down the aisle." He told her. "You were such a beautiful bride." Then he paused and looked at her closer. "What's wrong?" He asked, for her knew something was. She couldn't hide it from him. He knew her too well.
"Is it because Spot left?" He asked quietly. He suspected that was it, but Peep was not sure if that's where it stopped. Her sadness seemed to go very deep. He smiled softly and looked at her as he leaned against the railing. "So... Are you going to tell me, or should I just shut up already?" He said, smiling to let her know she was joking.

Doll smiled a sad smile at Peep, "That obvious, huh? Yea, it's a bit because Spot's gone. It's... different, now that I'm married to him, ya know? People dont say, 'oh look that's Spot Conlon's goil,' they say, 'Look it's Spot Conlon's wife. Dont mess wit' her.' It's all changed. Everything's changing... I dont know what to do. Peep I'm not a leader, I'm a boidy. I get information, I dont watch over boroughs for leaders, lest alone my husband." It felt weird calling Spot her husband, really weird.
Well she never expected to marry him. Hell she thought they would never get together before. But now they were. It was strange. And now, he was gone. At a meeting. Apparently Spot was gaining his notoriety everywhere. Chicago, New Jersey.... all over. It wouldn't surprise her if they had notoriety down somewhere else. Doll was worried about that. Because, well, Spot had an ego bigger than Texas. Way bigger than Texas. Maybe five Texas's put together. Ya. That was pretty accurate. After all, he had built that reputation up very easily over the years of being the leader.

Peep listened to her, concern in his face. He sighed and placed his head in his hand. "Well, Doll... That's what's it's like being married. The two become one, right? So, essentially, you're a part of Spot and he's a part of you." He shrugged. "I'll always be your best friend. You can't get rid of me. Even if you pushed me off the bridge."
He thought about the next part. "As for the borough bit... Doesn't Spot have a second in command? I mean like Bear or something?" Peep looked at her. "I felt bad for Missy, so I made her my second. It was gonna be Darling, but she disappeared." He sighed. "It's hard, Doll, I know it is. I'm catching a lot of flak for always being in Brooklyn with you or in Queens with-never mind." He changed the topic.
He looked at his hands then at the horizon of Brooklyn. "Doll... I hope that we can still be friends like always." He said. "Even if Spot doesn't improve. I hope he knows I don't love you that way. You're like a sister to me." He smiled wistfully. "I gave up on the Entertainer. He'll never be more then a friend... But... What if you feel yourself falling for someone you're not supposed to?" He asked her, looking at her curiously.

"I'm his second in command Peep, that's why I always watch over Brooklyn whenever he's gone. Not cause I'm his goil, cause it's my job. And if they give ya anymore crap tell 'em that I'll come over there and soak 'em personally. Honestly, they dont need ta give ya that when your second used to hang with pick pockets all the time. Why you in Queens anyway? I didnt know ya hung with them. Sure, I hang with Scout sometimes, but that's only if I ever need her, why you hanging in Queens?"
Doll was a bit concerned about that, what was Peep not telling her? She could always bird to find out... no, she wasn't that low as to spy on her friends, that, and she had a borough to watch over for Spot. It wouldn't be right to leave her post now. Frowning abit at what Peep said, she replied, "I know what that's like. For a long time it felt like I couldn't be with Spot, ya know, cause he's leader and I'm a boid... but things work out sometimes, ya know what I mean?"
Looking back out at Brooklyn, she smiled softly, thinking of how she knew where was what, and how she had birds out right then. Doll looked over at Peep, "Ya know, the job of watchin' over Brooklyn's tough, but sometimes, at the end of the day, it's all worth it, when I look out at everything and all. It stinks that I cant boid right now, cause I gotta watch over Brooklyn, but still, it's kind of worth it. Tiring, but worth it." She thought about other things, until something dawned on her, asking hesitantly, "Peep, what's today's date?"

Peep waved down her offer, "Thank you, Doll, but I can handle it myself." He chuckled. He shrugged, "Besides, half the time, I can't even find Missy. She's always in Midtown with them criminals. Or the criminal's in Staten Island." He frowned, "I won't have criminals, no matter how petty, in my borough, Doll. I could care less who they're with or what they're doing. And Chance, even if he's a usually good kid, I still think he'll somehow threaten my kids. And no way am I going to sacrifice kids safety for one girl's happiness."
He looked surprised at his sudden passion. "Sorry, didn't think I'd get worked up like that." He grinned sheepishly, like he'd been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "About Queens... I go and see a girl there." He said, then he turned playfully stubborn and shook his finger at her, "And I'm not going to tell you who." He said, only slightly joking. Then he turned thoughtful, almost wistful. "I can't help what I feel, you know?" He said, "But's hard. It's not exactly like I can shout it from the mountain tops," He sighed and shook his head, dropping the subject quickly.
"That's why we are who we are, Doll. We're leaders and we're second in commands because we're the ones who will give anything to make the borough better. We're the ones who rise the borough above ourselves. And we're the ones who see the borough for what it really is. We don't see the problems or the glories, we see the people and how they combine to make such a wonderful place that suits us."
He was taken aback by her asking the date. He was silent for a moment, then said, "The seventeenth." He looked at her slowly, his eyes narrowing suspiciously, "Why? You have something to do? Somewhere to be?" He then smiled and laughed softly, "Then again, not my business."

Shrugging, she replied, "Oh it's fine, everyone needs to vent every once in a while. I know I do the same. Get all worked up I mean." Doll listened as Peep talked about how he met a girl in Queens, and how he wasn't gonna tell her who it was. Scowling, she said jokingly, "You dont want me to go find out for myself do you?" Being a bird had it's perks, but Peep probably knew she couldn't go birding until Spot was back, which lead to her other bird options: Bear, and Tick Tock, her best.
Nodding her head at Peep, she stated bluntly, "I'm a boidy, not a leadah. Distinct differences. What you say is motivational, but doesnt do much for me, since I'm a boid. Little boids should be seen, heard, remember?" For Doll it was always like that; stand behind Spot and tell him what you know, make sure it didnt get into the wrong hands exetera exetera. In other words: Keep Spot happy and informed. Short and simple task, as long as you werent caught. If you were caugh then she would be mad cause she trained you better.
"The seventeenth," she repreated, counting back in her head. Her mouth formed an o, her facial expression easily becoming one that said, 'oh. crap.' Cursing under her breath, she thought of all the possibilities at the moment. Maybe it was just... no, no it couldn't be. "Peep... This ain't good. This ain't good this ain't good." Doll started pacing, this wasn't good at all. Of course, Spot just HAD to leave around this time. He had been gone what? A week now? She cursed again, only a bit louder... ok, maybe loud enough for a few other people to hear, but oh well.

Peep looked at her and waggled his finger at her playfully. "Now, now," He said, sounding like an old man. "You keep your nose out and maybe I'll tell you, eh?" He asked. "You can keep a secret, right?" He asked, suddenly nervous. "I've kinda been having a thing with..." He paused, looked around for he knew the art of spying and then said, "Drifter." He said finally, it was hardly above a whisper. Then he sighed and hung his head. He wasn't ashamed, but he knew how people thought.
Peep smiled at her. "But you're the best bird. Without you, Brooklyn wouldn't be half as powerful." He said quietly. "You're the best. You know everything, therefore, Spot knows everything. You're unbelievable!" He said, his voice low and quiet with his amazement at her. He knew how it worked, and it only worked because she was Doll.
Peep looked around suddenly, tensed for danger. Then he looked at her, slightly confused. "What's wrong, Doll? What's not good?" He asked, touching her arm. Concern was etched in his face. He listened to her swear. "Will you please tell me what's wrong?" He said, scared and nervous.

Her jaw dropped, but she quickly shook her head, "Drifter? Alright... but if she hurts you I'm hurting her, ok? I dont want her to hurt you." Doll's mind was reeling. Of all the girls, it was Drifter. Of course. No wonder, she had been relocated there after all. Maybe she as changing, hopefully. But then again, she was kissing Colonel... she'd hurt Drifter if she hurt Peep that way. She would. No exceptions, she didn't even care if Drifter was different now she would still hurt that girl, why? Her and Peep were close, that was why.
Smiling a little at what Peep said, she replied quietly, "I'm only this way because Soldier was the talker, I was just the one who made sure he won. Now it's that I make sure Spot wins. You say I'm amazing, I say I'm just a doll who blends in with the other lost toys." Doll's smile turned from a happy smile to a normal smile. People would say otherwise, but to her, it was all the same. The being quiet, nimble on her feet, that was from being on boats, all of it was obtained, not earned.
Walking over to a few crates, she shook her head, holding her head in her hands, "Peep, you know how goils have their... monthly gifts from mother nature. Well, I was suppose to get mine five days ago... I hope you know what it means when a goil's late." Doll swallowed a lump in her throat, this wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. Why did Spot have to leave now? Why? She needed him! She was getting herself worked up, how couldn't she? She hated to even think the word, but it was still there in her thoughts.
Pregnant.
