Name: Jason “Peanut” Brown
Age: 7
Physical Description:
Peanut is quite small for his age at three foot five, but doesn’t let his height affect him none. His dirty blonde hair is practically never untamable, always sticking up straight into the air. He has big, hazel colored eyes that seem to almost always look curious. Because of his height, he’s quite scrawny, since he doesn’t have to learn how to fight… yet. He has autism, but not severe. He picks at his arms, so he has to wear long sleeve shirts a lot, so he won’t pick at them. Although the shirts help sometimes, he has to wear bandages on his fingers to keep form picking.
Since he’s so small, he wears hand me downs, most of which are way too big for him. He doesn’t mind, but sometimes he trips over the legs of his pants, and finds his extra long sleeves quite handy if his nose is runny. He looks curious most of the time, so if he looks ready to ask a question, you better start thinking up answers. Because some of his questions can get pretty strange. Peanut can also be seen with a spoon in his hand, mouth, or pocket, in case he finds peanut butter.
History:
Jason Brown was born to Melanie and Jacob Brown. Jacob was a miner, and Melanie a seamstress. For a while, they lived out in California, where Jason as born. At an early age, his parents noticed how different he was. He was always aligning his toys neatly, but they were also concerned. He kept picking at his arms. They thought it must have been from being near the mines for too long with his father, and that he was getting a rash. So, they decided to go move in with Melanie’s mother in Queens, New York. Things when pretty well for a while.
Until one day, when Jason was four, a fire hit the house, and it burned his house down, him being the only survivor due to chasing after a cat. All he had left was his sock monkey named Joey, and the clothes on his back. He was taken to the hospital for a daily check up, and the doctor decided it best to wrap up Jason’s arms to keep from picking at them. Of course, this didn’t help. Before the doctors could send him off to an orphanage, he just kind of wandered off, not really knowing where he was going.
Soon enough though, he stumbled across the Queens lodging house, where Scout took him in. Ever since he’s always been following her around, asking her questions, and learning the ropes of selling newspapers from her. She gave him the nickname Peanut because of his height, and his love for peanut butter. Ever since the name sort of stuck for the small boy, who seemed to love being outside, and telling Scout if it was gonna rain or not, for this came in hand for selling, so that way the other newsies would know if it was gonna be a good day or not. Not a lot of other kids know about it, only older kids he’s close to, and definitely not anyone in other boroughs.
Personality:
For a kid with autism, he doesn’t act like one most of the time. He’s a curious kid who likes to know things, which explains why he has so many questions. Peanut likes to know things, so all his questions come from that. It’s not his fault he has so many questions, but one question leads to another. Most of the time he’s around Scout, so he mostly asks her questions, instead of burdening other kids at Queens, and can be quite smart when he wants to be. Because of his autism, it has made him almost savant like. Just by looking up at the sky he can tell what the weather is going to be like that day.
But because of his autism, he likes to have inanimate objects be in there, ‘exact place.’ If you move one into its ‘wrong place’ then he can be seen to get quite angry. Peanut can become quite the problem child because of this, since he doesn’t really tell people when he’s going to be moving things.
