Muse sighed a bit as she stuffed her hands in her pant pockets. She casually strolled down the streets of New York, she knew exactly where she was going. Brooklyn. It had been her home for 3 long years, up until recentely. That was when everything hit the fan and didn't turn out as well as she had hoped. Spot had found out about her and Fiddle's secret marriage and and had been less then please with her.. for Fiddle was in Harlem at the time. But he was different, why couldn't anyone else see that?
Leaning her head back and looked up at the bright sky as her long braid fell off her shoulder and down her back to sway left to right as she walked. The clouds slowly moved across the light blue that was painted over head peacefully it calmed her slightly, but only slightly. There was always that feeling that something was missing and Muse knew exactly what that was. She missed everything about Brooklyn, the sounds, the smells, the people, her friends.
Don't get her wrong she loved Manhattan. It was a great place and everyone was really nice but she missed the rough and tumble attitude of her old stomping grounds. She missed jumping from the roof and sitting at the end of the docks with Singer or Doll just talking or not saying anything at all. She missed Berlin and Goat, that silly little dog. Laughing a little she looked forward a bright smile exploding on her face as she saw the Brooklyn Bridge up ahead. She was almost Home.. almost.
Picking up her pace Muse went from a calm walk to a full out run. She was so close. Quickly she moved through the crowded streets, she was used to it. Being a newsie you had to be quick or you could land yourself in the refuge. Her wedding bracelet around her wrist jingled a bit as she ran a constant reminder that the man she loved was always with her. If Fiddle wasn't busy today he would have come with her, but some stuff came up last minute and he wasn't able to make it. Her feet pounded on the pavement as she took her last step off solid ground and onto the bridge. She had to get to at least the middle before she stopped. It had become a tradition, you get to the middle of the bridge and scream as loud as you can.
The smile on the blue eyed girls face grew as she got closer. Just a few more steps. This bridge was huge, but it was like a walk in the park for her, coming to a stop in the middle of the bridge she bent forward and took a deep breath before lunging to the side of the thing and screaming the smile never leaving her face as she heard the echo. She looked crazy to the others on the bridge; she knew this.. but she didn't care. Leaning back she closed her eyes. This was what she wanted, needed, that normality and knowledge that everything would be ok. Laughing again she took another deep breath to calm her pounding heart as she stepped away from the side of the bridge.
Glancing down the side of the structure that lead to Brooklyn she smiled again this time it was small almost longingly. One step in front of the other she made her way down to her home. She was starting to get nervous now, what would everyone say? She hadn't been back here since that night. The night she left with Fiddle. Her heart pounded, sweat started to break out on her forehead, she just prayed that everyone wouldn't hate her. She stopped her walking as she got to the other side of the bridge, one more step and she would be back on solid ground, back in Brooklyn. "Hello Brooklyn, miss me?" She mumbled to herself as she took that step and found herself back where she belonged.
Looking to her left she nodded to herself only three blocks and she would be at the docks. It didn't take her long to get to where she wanted to be she knew this place like the back of her hand. For a moment she stood in an alley watching all the Brooklynites run around laughing, playing cards or pushing eachother in the water. How she had missed this. Taking a few steps forward she exited the shadow of the alley and headed towards the docks. The smell of the water put her at ease as she moved towards the wooden peirs. Looking up she noticed that Spots perch was curiously empty, where was that boy? Taking in a breath she let out a loud whistle. "Hey, anyone know where Spotty-boy is?"
